Techvibes TV: Yelp's Mike Ghaffary on Yelp Deals - Techvibes.com

The rapid growth of daily deal sites was bound to see a turn at some point and that day may be near.

Yesterday Yelp cut staff and scaled back its one-year-old Yelp Deals service days after Facebook decided to shutter its own daily deals service. All the while the almighty Groupon continues to be criticized for its declining traffic - Hitwise reported that Groupon’s traffic has declined by 50% since its peak in mid-June.

Yelp's Director of Business Development Mike Ghaffary was in Vancouver less than two weeks ago for the GROW Conference and at the time was bullish on both Yelp Deals and Canada as a Yelp market.

With more than 20 million reviews on the site and over 58 million unique visitors in July 2011, Yelp is here to stay. And according to Ghaffary mobile and deals will lead the way.
