A Toronto teen who disappeared nearly a week ago has made contact with her family, according to police.
Michelle Yu, 18, was dropped off at school by her father on the morning of April 17. She didn’t return home afterwards and didn’t respond to email or phone calls.  “We have received information that she’s made contact with the family,” said Sgt. Tony Diviesti.  Yu is believed to be in Vancouver.
“The whole school family, we’re all really relieved and happy — really happy,” said Shari Schwartz-Maltz, spokesperson for the Toronto District School Board.

According to Schwartz-Maltz, Yu’s mother, Sharon, phoned the principal of York Mills Collegiate, Clara Williams, to deliver the news.
Police were still working to confirm Yu’s location and safety Sunday afternoon.
Friends and family mounted a massive search effort for the teen, printing custom T-shirts, holding rallies and flooding social networking sites with pleas for her safe return.
Video surveillance at TD bank near Bay St. and Queen St. W. captured images of Yu using her bank card around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
At the time, Yu’s father said there was no family conflict or other personal concerns. Family and police were worried for her safety as she has a heart condition and left home without her medication.
The Grade 12 student at York Mills Collegiate is graduating this year and has plans to pursue a business degree, with offers from York, Western and McGill.
Sunday afternoon, a website set up to find the missing teen and a Facebook group were updated with messages thanking the community and announcing Yu’s safety.
“We are ecstatic to let you know that contact has been made with Michelle. She is safe,” said the message posted on the FindMichelleYuFacebook page. Friends also took to Twitter with messages of joy at the notice.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance is ongoing.
